After several arrests made in the fight against crime in the neighbourhoods of Generaal de Wet, Fleurdal and Uitsig, members of security companies and the police were recognised for their huge contributions.
Tiaan Snyman, a reaction officer of Senforce, and Jeandre Swarts, operations manager of this security firm, received certificates during a meeting of the DeFleurSig Neighbourhood Association in June.
Snyman received a certificate of appreciation for his services and contributions in ensuring the safety and security of residents, and combating crime in the area. He had handled several positive arrests in the DeFleurSig area, and Senforce has been a great help in the area relating to security issues.
Marshall Neyschens, DeFleurSig’s executive committee member for safety and security, says they are also partnering with the FADT security company. Both companies will monitor the dedicated WhatsApp group through which members of DeFleurSig can report any crime-related issues, 24 hours a day.
“Tiaan also went the extra mile to assist a female resident from Generaal de Wet who had car issues and reported this on our community policing forum (CPF) group at around 22:50. Tiaan immediately sprung into action and assisted, arranging a towing service for them from town and preventing any possible incidents. The appreciation and comfort in her voice was very clear after the initial panicked and stressed-out message,” Neyschens said.
“We also awarded Sgt MB Ntomane of the Parkweg Police Station for her service towards DeFleurSig in the past year and for assisting wherever she can from the CPF and police’s side. She attends all our general meetings in addition to CPF meetings, and ensures regular police patrols in our area at night.”
Neyschens explains that DeFleurSig has regular patrols, day and night, overseen by the association’s security partners. He says he also reacts to any issues reported – even small issues like open garage doors and gates. These are settled before it becomes an issue.
“We also assist with reporting street lights that do not work, and potholes are filled via DeFleurSig and Raubex.
“I believe the only way to combat crime is active involvement from the community.”
