The adjusted budget for the Mangaung Metro was not approved during the council meeting held on Monday (27/02) in Bloemfontein because there were not enough votes from the ANC to support the budget.
There were also again no point on the agenda to replace the executive mayor, as was expected.
The speaker Stefani Lockman-Naidoo, said she did not received a letter of resignation from the executive mayor Mxolisi Siyonzana.
The DA have submitted a motion to dismiss Siyonzana as executive mayor in September last year and since this motion has not served in council.
The ANC in the Free State has already announced that Siyonzana, the deputy mayor, Mapaseka Mothibi-Nkoane, and the speaker, Lockman-Naidoo, will be replaced.
Until now they are still officialy in office.
Siyonzana was not present in the council meeting on Monday and Mothibi-Nkoane reported on the ajustment budget for February.
There were also an announcement that the national intervention team that includes the acting city manager and heads of some of the crucial departments in the metro, will stay in their positions until the next council meeting later this week.
This recommendations were not approved because there were not a majority of 51 votes. One of the ANC council members was expelled pending a court case in Thaba Nchu. The ANC will need the votes of all 49 members along with votes from other parties to get the adjusted budget approved.
The adjustment budget now have to serve again in front of council within seven days.
- Marietjie Gericke from Netwerk24 also report that an urgent court order was handed in at the High Court in Bloemfontein on Monday to dissolve the Mangaung Metro Council. The court documents were handed to the council by the Mangaung Service Delivery Forum and the Forum 4 Service Delivery with 12 respondents including president Cyril Ramaphosa, Enoch Godongwana, minister of finances, dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, minister of corporate governance and tradisional affairs, as well as the new premier of the Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana.
