The first Free State provincial field archery competition of the year was held on 19 February, with competitors travelling from as far as Northern Gauteng and Thabazimbi. The two presidents of the South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association (Sanifaa), Gert Snyman (outdoor president) and Petrus van Breda (indoor president), was both very impressed with the course that had been laid out by the staff of Be Human on the Middelwater Farm. The competition was presented by the local FieldHunters Archery Club.
The medal winners for the event:
Veteran male bowhunter unlimited category:
- Kobus Barnard (FieldHunters) – gold with a score of 1 094;
- Lourens Nel (Archers Edge in North Gauteng) – silver with 1 040.
Adult male bowhunter unlimited:
- Steve Swanepoel (FieldHunters) – gold with 1002;
- Marius Wessels (FieldHunters) – silver with 1 000; and
- Aart Broekhuizen (Thabazimbi Archers Club) – bronze with 993.
Junior male bowhunter unlimited:
- JB Wessels (FieldHunters) – gold with 989; and
- Aart Broekhuizen Jnr (Thabazimbi) – silver with 925.
Adult female bowhunter unlimited:
- Mathilda Broekhuizen (Thabazimbi) – gold with 986;
- Quinita Swanepoel (FieldHunters) – silver with 972; and
- Rozaan Bosch (FieldHunters) – bronze with 969.
Junior female bowhunter unlimited:
- Maya Broekhuizen (Thabazimbi) – gold with 984.
Veteran male freestyle unlimited:
- Gert Snyman (Thabazimbi – gold with 1 057.
Adult male freestyle unlimited:
- Dawie Rothman (5X Archery Club in North Gauteng – gold with 1 084. There was a shootout after a tie for the gold medal;
- Henk Verhoef (Magnum Archery in North Gauteng) – silver with 1 084;
- Guillaume Pelser (FieldHunters) – bronze with 1 076.
Junior male freestyle unlimted:
- Rynhardt vd Merwe (Archers Edge in North Gauteng) – gold with 1 076.
Veteran female freestyle unlimted:
- Grietjie Poolman (Dynamic Archery in Gauteng) – gold with 960.
Adult female freestyle unlimted:
- Licinda Kleynhans – gold with 983; and
- Marthina Kleynhans – silver with 963. Both are from 5X Archery.
