Three Free State archers took top honours in a national indoor archery championship, which was the first of its kind.

Emile Botha, a national judge in Bloemfontein, said archers from across the country competed at different venues.

No national championship was held in 2021, due to Covid-19, so this was a chance for all the indoor archers from accross the country to test their skills against each other’s.

After the provincial championship had taken place on the weekend of 8 and 9 January, the Bloemfontein leg of this national South African National Archery Association (Sanaa) event was held on Saturday (15/01) and Sunday at the indoor archery hall at Musgrave.

Some of the top results are:

  • Katelynn Muller won gold in the girls’ U10 compound division;
  • Kobus Barnard received gold in the master’s compound division (men 50+);
  • Dewald (Wallie) Arpin won gold in the cadet men’s U18 recurve division;
  • Guillaume Pelser received silver in the men’s compound division;
  • Sunette Smal received bronze in the master’s recurve division (women 50+);
  • Altus Aucamp received bronze in the men’s compound division; and
  • Wally Waldeck came fourth in the masters’ compound division (men 50+).
