A thought-provoking exhibition that places the focus on gender-based violence in times of war is now on display in the War Museum in Bloemfontein.
The creative artist Dina Cormick, who honour the stories of women with her art, opened the exhibition in the museum’s art gallery on 29 November.
The exhibition coincides with the national 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children.
The exhibition entitled Angst: Gender-Based Violence, Suffering and the Trauma of War includes works from different artists depicting the experiences of women and children during the war.
At the opening, Cormick spoke on her work, including her attemts to address and reclaim women’s rightful position in society – religious and political.
She donated some of her work to the museum and also gave some of her work on loan to the museum for the Angst exhibition.
Also included in the exhibition is two works by learners of Grey College: Luan Botha’s piece Die Uitkyk and that of Luhan Opperman (Gr. 8) Vrou en kinders wat in konsentrasiekamp ly.
The exhibition can be viewed in the War Museum’s art gallery until March.
