Local rock group Concrete Chapel have had an amazing 12 months, with an award under their belt and new fans from across the world.
Band member Trevor Bouwer says they were fortunate to play at the Central Music Awards held at the Sand du Plessis Theatre on 22 July, and to receive the Best Rock/Pop Artist 2023 award.
“It has been an extremely exciting, productive, and fantastic year for the band,” Bouwer said.
“We played along with Watershed last year August, and went to Johannesburg to record our new album, Evolution. We did two album launches – at Rumours Rock City in Johannesburg with The Black Cat Bones, and in a packed Staffies Pub in Bloemfontein.”
Bouwer said they were overwhelmed by the more than 600 000 streams of their albums on Spotify alone.
“The exiting news is that more than 70% of the streams came from overseas, including Europe and America.”
They also had four shows in front of enthusiastic audiences at the Vrystaat Arts Festival.
“We have been fortunate to get a lot of attention from local radio stations, and our growth and popularity has increased exponentially over the last year,” Bouwer said.
“We are looking forward to an incredible gig lined up in Johannesburg in October and lots more to come in 2024.”
