The soulful and pure sounds of Bloemfontein singer-songwriter Emily Dangwa (37) will fill the air at the launch of her album Courage through Fear on Sunday.

Emily and her three children resides in Bloemfontein after seven years in Windhoek, Bloemfontein.

Trained in classical music and opera at the University of Cape Town Music School, Emily established herself as a singer in Windhoek singing at festivals, private functions, and corporate events.

A very difficult time in her life followed with a divorce prompting her and the children to move to Bloemfontein, where her parents have a house.

After navigating this transformative period in her life, she decided to launch the album with eight songs – a deeply personal and emotional journey through love, pain, betrayal and hope.

“The album lived in the producer studio and after some encouragement, I decided to share it,” she said.

“I hope this album will be a source of comfort and strength for those who have endured pain,” Emily says. “Hope has carried me through the hard times, and I am honored to share it with the world.”

She said writing music is her hobby. “I write when I feel moved. I wrote ‘Faithfull’ after the birth of my twins in 2016. Many of the songs I wrote at a time when I was very down and stressed.”

She wrote ‘A Wife’s Prayer’ in 2021 during the Covid pandemic, when things were particularly difficult for her, and her parents were stuck in the Philippines, unable to support her. “It was thanks to my relationship with God that I got through that difficult time. With these songs, I want to encourage women.”

Along with Emily performing songs from the album, psychologist Esté Pistorius will join her to discuss topics of love and loss, marriage, relationships, children, and divorce.

The event will be take place on Sunday, 20 October, at Urth Garden Centre from 11:00 to 14:00. Tickets cost R160 and are available on Quicket.
