Only hours after a cash-in-transit robbery took place in Bloemfontein yesterday, six suspects was taken into custody near Bothaville.
The suspects drove a Mercedes Benz into the cash delivery vehicle and disarmed the security guards before fleeing the scene in two vehicles with an undisclosed amount of money.
A Batho police vehicle that was on the scene of the robbery, was shot at.
Capt Christopher Singo, spokesperson for the Hawks, said in a collaborative effort with coordination of resources by members of the Welkom flying squad, Welkom K9 Unit, Allanridge SAPS, Bothaville SAPS and a private security company, the suspects were found in posession of firearms and cash supected to have been stolen during the robbery.
The six suspects aged between 35 en 45 years, will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court tomorrow on charges of robbery, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and possession of suspected stolen money.
The acting provincial commissioner, Maj Gen Len Singh personally visited the scene of arrests to relay a message from the national commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, commending the joint effort and good work by the operatives which led to this arrests.
Further investigation by members the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation continues.
