Three Bloemfontein schools are beaming with pride after being crowned as champions in their respective categories of the first Inter-Schools Challenge staged on 1 May.

The challenge was held at the Johnson Bendile Sports Grounds in Bochabela.

This community event for schools in ward 2 of the Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) was hosted under the theme “Bringing back the Spirit: Community School Sports Returns”.

It was organised by the nonprofit organisation (NPO) Batho Rise Foundation.

The Sehunelo Secondary School proved too strong for its competitors, earning a double victory.

The school clinched the U19 netball and football category, after beating the teams of the St Bernard’s High School.

The Batho Primary School and Morafe Primary School were winners in the junior category, lifting trophies for victory in the netball and seven-a-side football clashes, respectively.

Obakeng Monnye, chairperson of the foundation, said following the successful staging of the sporting event they plan to involve more schools in the township, as well as partners, to reach out to more youths.
