The Bloemfontein Children’s Choir will present its annual Gala Concert on Friday, 4 October.
Audience members can expect a jam-packed and versatile musical exhibition.
The eclectic concert programme of 2024 will enthral audiences with music from The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, music from Messiah by Handel, opera music by Bizet and Rossini, folk music from Serbia, Philippines, Hungary, America, Sweden and Italy and music from Sister Act and the band Queen.
The audience can also look forward to music of South Arican composers Charlotte Botha and Anton Esterhuyse.
Fun musical numbers by Katy Perry and Miriam Makeba will further captivate audience members. In 2023, the choir performed at the first national Mzansi Conductors Convention in Cape Town. The choir also took part in the Cape Town Eisteddfod in 2023 and received two gold medals and was named winners of this prestigious competition’s junior section.
Furthermore, the BCC had a memorable tour to Kimberley and an absolute highlight to conclude the year, a performance with the Drakensberg Boys Choir in December 2023.
In 2024 the choir undertook a coastal tour. The tour started in George and ended in Cape Town and included several performances, some of which were joint performances with other children’s choirs, such as the Southern Cape Children’s Choir, the Cape Town Children’s Choir and the Tygerberg Children’s Choir.
For the remainder of the year, the choir will perform in churches, gala concerts, and will perform the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein with the Free State Symphony Orchestra.
The Gala Concert programme commemorates 37 years and the breathtaking moments through the years.
Werner Stander, musical director of the choir, says this concert is a tribute to Bloemfontein and boasts the talent of these children.
The event will start at 18:00 at Doxa Deo Church in Fichardtpark. Tickets cost R150 and are available at the door or on Webtickets.
