Singers who would like to perform in a mass choir project in the Sand du Plessis Theatre in November are invited to join in the rehearsels, starting at the beginning of August.
Chorus master Werner Stander, who is the director of the Bloemfontein Children’s Choir, said this choir – as well as singers from the University of the Free State Choir from the Bloemfontein Campus, South Campus and Qwaqwa Campus – are already on board.
The Project Choir will perform in collaboration with the Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO) on 2 November.
The conductor for the performance is Daniel Boico.
The works that will be performed are the 9th Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven and the Chichester Psalms by Leornard Bernstein.
The Beethoven 9th Symphony is scored for soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB) chorus and soloists with full classical orchestra; and the Chichester Psalms will be presented with SATB chorus, soloists, children’s choir and orchestra.
“We are inviting all adult choir singing enthusiasts in our community to join in the project,” Stander says.
Rehearsals will take place at the Odeion Choir Room on Thursday evenings at 18:00, starting on Thursday, 1 August.
