This weekend will see model steam locomotives of all shapes and scales at Modenso Park in Rhyn Avenue, Bayswater.
The Bloemfontein Society of Model Engineers invites children of all ages to come and enjoy interacting with the steam locomotives, as well as markets and family-friendly activities.
The highlight of the weekend will be the display of visiting steam locomotives from Gauteng and various members from across the Free State, providing guests with the unique opportunity to view these magnificent machines up close.
Modenso Park was founded in 1959. The society has had an outstanding year, with members completing various projects such as the refurbishment of the compressor, replacement of the museum’s ceiling, and the painting of the clubhouse.
The society has also partnered with Anchor of Hope to clean up and restore the gardens surrounding the club. These efforts have helped enhance the club’s facilities and prepare for a truly special event.
The weekend of steam and wonder will commence with a night market on Saturday, 14 December, starting at 18:00.
The fun will continue on Sunday, from 12:00, featuring an afternoon market with more opportunities for the family to shop and ride the trains.
“We are thrilled to celebrate a successful year with our community,” says Christo Slabbert, chairperson of the society.
“This event promises to be a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, enjoy the beauty of our steam locomotives, and support local vendors at our vibrant markets.”
This event will be a perfect way to close out 2024, and the society invites everyone to join in the celebration.
Entry is free of charge, and the train rides cost R10 per person – big or small.
