Neptune Aquatics, a swimming club that was formed over a decade ago, is hosting its annual prestige swimming gala in Bloemfontein later this month.
The swimmers, coached by the celebrated Clinton Thomas, will join more than 400 other swimmers for this event hosted from 27 to 29 October at the Free State Stadium Swimming Pool.
Swimmers from accross the Free State will take part in about 24 events over a three-day period, with the last day of the weekend featuring a number of relays.
The gala will accommodate a number of races, including heats for s-class (the category for persons with disabilities), and swimmers who will be given an opportunity to compete with their peers and qualify for national events. This will be the ultimate race for club swimmers, with swimmers with the most points to be crowned as champions of the Neptune Prestige Gala.
Neptune Aquatics runs two training facilities in Bloemfontein throughout the year, and has access to an outside pool over the summer at Eunice High School.
The club offers swimming lessons for both children and adults, as well as lessons on stroke correction and competitive swimming – which in turm is broken down as development for junior and senior squads.
The prestige gala of next week promises to showcase some of the best swimmers the Free State and the country has to offer.
The event is orchestrated to ignite a love for swimming as a sport, with the eager swimmers buzzing of competitive energy, excited to compete.
The gala will start on Friday, 27 October, with the long-distance swimming.
It will continue on the Saturday, with short courses, and conclude on the Sunday with a short course and relays at the Free State Stadium Swimming Pool.
