More than 500 chefs and students from as far afield as Lesotho attended a succesful InfoChef Conference at the Windmill Casino on Thursday (23/03).

The event, organized by the Free State Committee of the South African Chefs Associations (Saca), was held to bring everyone from the hospitality and food industry together to learn more about the newest developments and products.

The exhibitors comprised of businesses, chefs, suppliers of kitchen equipment and attire, as well as restaurants and food and beverage suppliers.

There were also several talks and demonstrations.

Attendees could taste some of the food and beverages at stalls and see how the newest technology are used to make quick and easy and tasty meals.

One of the cooking utensils that was demonstrated at the event, was the new generation Thermomix that can cook, boil, simmer, stew, chop and mince, blend food, puree and crush.

Ronel du Toit cooked a dish on the Thermomix, showing how this kitchen gadget gives you a recipe, measurements and other cooking information.

“In some coutries it can even send your shopping list for a dish to the shop and get every-thing to your doorstep.”

She explains this is a kitchen gadget used often by chefs in small kitchens.

Warren Frantz, director of all the regions of Saca, was very impressed with the turnout to the Bloemfontein event.
