Crime-fighting efforts lauded

A member of the Bloemfontein police’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Investigations (FCS) unit in Mangaung was the overall winner in the 13th South African Heroine Awards Ceremony presented at Sun City on Saturday, 2 November.

Sgt Bokamoso Peter, also a member of the Manaung district serial rapist task team, was awarded for her concerted efforts in putting perpetrators of gender-based violence (GBV) behind bars.

“I want to do more for victims of GBV and femicide,” she said after she was honoured.

“I want to put more rapists behind bars,” said Peter.

“I have managed to put 32 in prison; some are serving life sentences. I have secured convictions totalling more than 330 years of incarceration for rapists, and I promise the community that I serve that I will do more.”

The acting national police commissioner, Lt. Gen. Shadrack Sibiya, congratulated Peter on behalf of all the men and women in blue, congratulated Peter for walking away as the overall winner in the legal sector category at the 13th South African Heroine Awards Ceremony.
