The recently launched CUT Cycling Club took part in the 2022 Cycle Lab Maluti Double 90 in Clarens on 9 April.
The team of 12 men have been practicing as a team since March.
The cyclists completed the race, which started and finished at the President Square, Clarens.
The route took teams from Clarens to Bethlehem to follow the R26 road before turning onto the R714 road towards Warden. Thereafter, cyclists took a right turn onto the R57 road towards Kestell before the last stretch on the R712 road, which included a tough hilly section through the Golden Gate Highlands National Park.
Dr Gary Paul, CUT deputy vice-chancellor for resources and operations and one of the team members, said that launching the club was a great way for the CUT community to get back to doing outdoor activities while improving their health.
“As the club grows, I hope that next year we will have a women’s team and one for students joining us,” said Paul.
