Free State Archers did well in the South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association’s (SANIFAA) national 3D archery championships, held from 23 to 25 September in Potchefstroom.
The archers competed in different categories on a route at the Elgro River Lodge.
Nine archers from the Free State attained top positions at the championship.
- Archers that received gold are: Kobus Barnard, Adult Male Bowhunter Unlimited;) Quinita Swanepoel, Female Freestyle Unlimited;) Braam le Roux, Adult Male Bowhunter Unlimited; and) Steven Heyns, Freestyle Unlimited.
A silver medal was awarded to Danie Hoffman in the Adult Male Bowhunter Unlimited category.
- The young Free State cubs and young adults that received medals were: Johan Vorster (16) of the Paul Erasmus School received gold in the Junior Freestyle Unlimited category; ) Pieter-Louis Pretorius (17) of the Witteberg High School received gold in the Rangefinder Young Adult Freestyle Unlimited; ) Stephan Heyns (12) of the Senekal Primary School received gold in the Rangefinder Cub Freestyle Unlimited; ) John-Dré Kotze (12) of the Senekal Primary School received silver in the Rangefinder Cub Freestyle Unlimited; and) André (AJ) van der Walt (10) President Steyn High School received gold in the Rangefinder Cub Bowhunter Unlimited event.
