Several learners from across the province participated in the Free State Young Artist Competition presented by the National Museum in Bloemfontein.
During an awards ceremony held at the museum on Saturday (27/08), the three winners in each of the age categories received their prizes.
The theme for this year’s competition was “Only one Earth”.
With world environment as the basic theme, young artists were asked to demonstrate through art how we could live sustainably and in harmony with nature, and present possibilities for shifting to a greener lifestyle through policies and individual choices.
The first prize winner in category A (5 to 9 years) received R600 as a reward, with R300 and R150 reserved for second and third prize winners, respectively. The first prize winner of category B (10 to 14 years) was rewarded with R1 000, R600 went to the second prize winner and the third prize winner received R300.
In category C (15 to 19 years) the first prize winner walked away with R1 700, the second prize winner was presented R1 000 and R750 went to the third prize winner.

- First: Kolobe Itumeleng of the Reamohetse Articon School
- Second: Twama Atlehang of the Amohelang Secondary School
- Third: Suné Fourie of the Hoër Meisieskool Oranje and art student of the Eezet Fourie Art School
Category B
- First: Geertje Venter of the Missio Dei School outside Ficksburg
- Second: Annabelle Laubscher of the Hoër Meisieskool Oranje, an art student of the Eezet Fourie Art School
- Third: Olivia Rudd of the Eunice Primary School, an art student of the Eezet Fourie Art School
Category A
- First: Zoey Su of the Eunice Primary School
- Second: Quinn du Plessis of the Universitas Primary School
- Third: Njabula Nokha of the Fauna Primary School
