The hockey team from the Eunice High School were all smiles after winning the St Mary’s Waverley Hockey Festival this weekend.
It was the first time in 18 years that Eunice came out tops in this tournament in Johannesburg.
The team from Eunice did not loose one of their 12 games and drew twice. There were 32 schools from accross South Africa that took part in the tournament from 30 March to 2 April.
Not only did they hit it all the way to the top spot, Taheera Augousti were crow- ned player of the tournament and Megan Pelser top goal scorer in the tournament.
In the semi-finals Eunice won their game against the team of the Hoër Meisieskool Oranje (1-0) that was the top schools hockey team in South Africa in 2022.
Eunice beat Wykeham (2-0), St Mary’s Festival Team (2-0) and drew against Windhoek High School on the first day of the tournament.
On the second day they beat St Cyprians (2-0), Afrikaans Hoër (2-0), Durban Girls High (3-1) and Claredon (1-0). In the play- offs they drew agains Paarl Gimnasium (2 all), beat Paarl Girls (2-1) and beat St Mary’s (2-0). After they won against Oranje, Eunice went on to beat St. Mary’s in the final.
