The Bloemfontein School of Autism on 21 September enjoyed an outing to the Bloemfontein SAPS Air Wing at the Tempe Airport.

The board members of the school, in partnership with the Free State Department of Education, the staff members, 25 special needs learners and assistants undertook the visit as part of the curriculum that teaches learners about the various forms of transport.

The group were taken on a tour to show them what the SAPS helicopters look like.

Staff members of the SAPS Air Wing explained to the children why it is so important to have the air wing in Bloemfontein to fight crime in the city.

The school’s principal, Tiisetso Molotsi, along with the school’s teachers, Veronica Bouwer, Ise Labuschagne, Suzanna Botha, Jolande Jansen, Anje Coetzee and the ocupational therapist, Emma Webb, accompanied the learners.

At the end of the tour, each learner received a gift pack, balloons, colouring activities and certificates organised by the air wing staff.

The group left with a greater appreciation for what the SAPS Air Wing does to help combat crime in Bloemfontein.
