Fire destroys 12 rooms at Kopano Nokeng Lodge, no injuries reported

Nobody was hurt when a fire destroyed 12 rooms at the Kopano Nokeng Country Lodge and Conference Centre outside Bloemfontein yesterday.


Nobody was hurt when a fire destroyed 12 rooms at the Kopano Nokeng Country Lodge and Conference Centre outside Bloemfontein yesterday.

Futher damage to the lodge next to the Maselspoort Road, was prefented by the speedy arrival of the fire service of the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) and the Mangaung Fire Service.

According to Andrea Bradfield, manager at Kopano Nokeng, the safety of clients and staff coninues to be their first priority. “We are grateful for the swift response from emergency services and our team’s prompt action so ensure everyone’s safety.”

Braam van Zyl, department head at the Mangaung Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire was probably caused by a feld fire accross from the Maselspoort Road. “We think a spark blew accross the road that led to the grass roof bursting into flames.”

He said Acsa’s fire service as well as members of the community were already on the scene when they arrived on Monday around 12:00.

Bradfield says that alternative accommodations have been arranged for the affected guests and all bookings and events will proceed as scheduled.”
