Art students of the Eunice High School showed how talented they are at the Art Safari presented to parents and special guests at the school on 6 and 7 April.

Guests were welcomed by the sounds of the Eunice Marimbas and could then visit four stations showcasing different art forms.

One of these was that of the theatre department, with six learners presenting monologues.

In one of these acts, Lucy Groenewald was the Cheshire Cat of Alice in Wonderland, in a scene where this well-known character interacts with Alice. During the monologue the cat’s madness unfolds.

Another monologue, At her feet, disturbed many of the guests. Ayanak Jamalie spoke as Azra Al Jamal, a Jordanian woman stoned to death by male members of her community because of the sexist culture in that country.

In the art class several thought-provoking works of art were exhibited, and guests were also given some insight into the world of creative art.

The Eunice Ensemble used music to tell the story of a journey from war to peace – a topic that was brought to the world’s attention again with the war that is now raging in Ukraine.

The school’s two choirs, the Eunice Vitae Cantamus Choir and the Eunice Junior Choir added their voices to this celebration of the arts by performing a variety of songs.

Works of art created by Elizabeth Rossouw and Nielsje Erasmus.
