The Heidedal Civic Association (HCA) is disappointed and frustrated by the lack of response from the South African Police Service (SAPS) on the memorandum and petition that was handed over to them on Sunday, 29 October.

In the memorandum that was handed over to General Major Arthur Adams, the Mangaung Disctrict Commissioner, the community demanding urgent action to several issues that was raised.

Shadrack Muishond, chairperson of the HCA, called on the SAPS to respond within 14 days, which now have lapsed.

The memorandum together with a petition signed by residents, was delivered to the SAPS Heidedal after a peaceful march organized by the HCA on the same day.

Shadrack said the HCA acknowledges that the SAPS has made some arrests of drug traffickers in the past month, but that is not enough to curb the problem that is destroying the lives of many young people and families in the area.

Bloemnuus reported on 16 Novembere that drugs were seized and several suspects were arrested in Heidedal.

The HCA also condemns the harassment and intimidation of the community neighborhood watch members by some police officers, who have told them to go and march again against the police instead of cooperating with them

“The HCA demands that the SAPS responds in writing to the memorandum, outlining the specific actions and measures that will be taken to address the issues raised.” The HCA also urges Heidedal SAPS to respect and support the community neighborhood watch, who are working hard to make the area safer and cleaner for everyone.

Muishond explains the HCA is a non-profit organization that represents the interests and concerns of the residents of Bloemfontein, especially those living in Heidedal.

“The HCA aims to promote social cohesion, civic participation, and community development in the area.
