In an effort to extend the spreading of breast cancer awareness beyond October, supporters of this worthy cause can now enter the Reach for Recovery 4 x 1 km swimming event on Sunday, 19 January, at Maselspoort.
The charity swim will coincide with the annual Kovsie Aquatics Open Water Swim.
Entrants to the Open Water Swim can choose between a 5 km, 3 km, 1 km, and 500 m swimming event.
Christopher Steven of Kovsie Aquatics says the water will be tested twice in accordence to regulations by Swimming South Africa (SSA). The last test will be done during the week of the open water swim to ensure that the water is safe for swimmers.
All participants will swim in a pink swimming cap as part of breast cancer awareness campaign.
Swimmers who want to go the extra milie and donate to this worthy cause, can take part in the exciting 4 x 1 km event where they will be swimming with a blue cap to differentiate them from the other swimmers.
For every entry for this event,, R1 000 will be donated to Reach for Recovery, an organisation supporting those affected by breast cancer practically and emotionally.
Reach for Recovery will use the funds for their support services to patients undergoing a mastectomy.
The 4 x 1 km Reach for Recovery Swim offers participants a unique challenge where they will complete all four 1 km events along with the different age groups. This special race tests endurance and supports this worthy cause.
Starting times for the events are as follows:
Event 1: 5 km – 08:00;
Event 2: 3 km – 08:00;
Event 3: boys (13 and under) and men (31 and older) – 1 km – 10:00;
Event 4: girls (13 and under) and women (31 and older) – 1 km – 11:00;
Event 5: men (14 to 30) Z 1 km Z 12:00;
Event 6: women (14 to 30) – 1 km – 13:00;
Event 7: Fun Swim – 500 m – 14:00; and
Event 8: 4 x 1 km Reach For Recovery Swim – the first race starts at 10:00.
