The Jean Webber House for people with disabilities has been blessed with a donation of adult diapers.
The diapers, enough to last a month, was handed over by the Property House Group (PHG), part owners of the Northridge Mall, on 19 November.
Funds raised from a marathon that was held at Northridge in September were used, as part of the national Nappy Run, to support the residents of Jean Webber.
Therina Wentzel-du Toit, director of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), says the aim of the Nappy Run is to mitigate the huge shortage of diapers for children, as well as for adults with disabilities.
“The project also aims to create awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities in the community,” she says.
The residents of Jean Webber receive a monthly allowance for persons with disabilities.
“Diapers give them the freedom to go out of the home with dignity. It also increases hygiene and improves the health of the residents,” explains Wentzel-du Toit.
Sonette Boshoff, chairperson of the board at the PHG, says it is an honour to partner with Jean Webber.
Boshoff has been honoured for the work she and the PHG team did in recent months by establishing a call centre that aims to create work opportunities for Jean Webber residents in the months to come.
Jackie Malan, social worker at Jean Webber, says Boshoff and her staff not only played a huge role in establishing the call centre, but also changed the lives of all the residents for the better.
