Riders took part in the Autumn Graded Dressage Show at The View Equestrian Centre hosted by the Cheval Showholding Body.
There were 29 horses that took part in 21 show classes on Saturday (01/04).
The classes included walk and trot classes for beginners, prelim, novice, elementary to advanced for riders who ride horses that are schooled in dressage.
Dressage is a horseriding discipline where the horse and rider are judged on different levels, from prelim to grand prix.
As the horses are trained, the movements become more difficult and need to be performed precisely before the horse can move to a next level of training.
This kind of riding is often described as the ballet of horse riding.
The Cheval Showholding Body was established to jumpstart the sport after dressage shows almost came to an end, even before Covid-19 had an effect.
The Autumn Show was the second in 2023, and the next dressage show is the Cheval Graded Dressage at The View on 6 May.
This will also be the selection show for the Free State team that will take part in the Youth Championships.
The Dressage Championships will be held in Kimberley in July.
