A tactical response team of the Parkweg SAPS reacted to information about a warehouse used to store illicit cigarettes and arrested a 41-year-old foreign national in the Bloemfontein CBD.
The suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
The SAPS team arrived at the warehouse in the CBD this morning at 09:00.
They searched the warehouse and found about 97 boxes of illicit cigarettes worth an estimated R1,9 million.
“This type of illegal activity is negatively affecting our economy,” said Lt. Genl Baile Motswenyane, Free State police commissioner.
“We would like to applaud the vigilance of our members in responding to illegal activities of this nature.”
The suspect was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes.
