The Tswellang Special School in Bloemfontein now boasts its own vegetable garden, producing fresh vegetables and some practical opportunities for learners.
The school accommodates learners with physical disabilities.
Zylia Wium, marketer for McDonald’s, visited the school on 9 February to donate equipment for the garden.
Gesina Stander of Tswellang said the aim of the garden was to provide fresh vegetables for the school kitchen so that healthy meals could be prepared for learners.
She said the garden would also play a very valuable role in the agricultural curriculum.
“We plan to develop and adapt the garden for it to be accessible and allow the learners with disabilities to actively become part of the gardening process.”
Stander said the school was very proud of its new garden and teachers and learners alike thanked McDonald’s for the donation, making work in the garden easier.
