A Bloemfontein karateka is now considered the youth ladies world champion, after winning gold at an international championship in Japan.
Bridget Otto, a Gr. 11 learner at the Eunice High School, won a gold medal at the World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WSKF) World Championships hosted on 17 and 18 November. She competed in Tokyo, where she won gold in the youth ladies’ kumite.
She also received a bronze medal in the team kumite and a silver medal in youth ladies’ kata.
Another karateka of Eunice, Katlego Nhlapo, who is in Gr. 10, won bronze in the girls’ junior kumite, as well as in the team kumite.
