Locals make country proud in foreign water

The South African Lifesaving Team just returned from Canada with an overall third place in an international competition.


The South African Lifesaving Team just returned from Canada with an overall third place in an international competition.

Len-Douglas Mac Kay from Bloemfontein won three medals at the Royal Life Saving Society Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships that took place from Wednesday, 13 September, to 17 September in Windsor, Canada.

Mac Kay came second in the 200 m obstacle relay along with teammates Aiden Borman, Antonie Pieterse and Robbie le Roux.

He came third in the 100 m tow and tube event. He claimed the same position in the 200 m super lifesaver event.

Mac Kay along with teammates Tove van Zyl, Deborah Dreghe and Antonie Pieterse just missed out on a medal in the mixed wet circuit event.

Mac Kay was part of the national men’s team. There was also a women’s team in addition to a development team.

Lifesavers and lifesaving teams from countries like Australia, England, Canada, Wales, India, Singapore, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Hong Kong took part in the championships.
