Eleven more people were arrested by the police during the unrest caused by the land invation next to Jagersfontein Road in Bloemfontein.

Thirteen people that were arrested on Saturday, 3 March for contravening the court order for land invasion and tresspasing, appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday. They were remanded in custody and will appear again on Friday, 8 March.

On Tuesday seven males and four females were arrested for public violence and contravention of the Road Traffic Act. They were arrested for blocking off the corner of Kokerboom and Curie Avenue (the Jagersfontein Road) by burning tyres and throwing stones at the police.

The police are keeping a watchfull eye while people from all over the Mangaung Metro as far as Dewetsdorp and Thaba Nchu streamed to the area to erecting informal houses unlawfully next to the Jagersforntein Road opposite Lourie Park.

Residents of Lourier Park say they are concerned for their won safety because of the thousands of invaders that are settling unlawfully on this municipal property where there are no services like water.

Rumours are that four ANC councillors instigated the large invasion with plots being marked out in a large area from Lourierpark to Bloemdal and Rooi Dam in the south of Lourierpark.

Residents told BloemNews on Tuesday that they went out on Monday night and planned to do it again on Tuesday to destroy some of the unoccupied structures closest to their homes in Lourier Park.

The DA as well as the Fichardtpark Neighbourhood Association (FNA) took legal action to force the Mangaung Metro to enforce the interim court order to prevent the illegal land grab.

By Tuesday there were already more than 1 500 fully or partially erected structures in the area and thousands of cars parked for kilometers along the Jagersfontein Road. Vehicles with building supplies were prevented from driving to the area, but all over people were working in the marked off areas to start their building process.
