More players ‘squash’ tournament

The Southern Free State Closed Squash Tournament that was held on Friday and Saturday, grew by 30% in participation since last year.

The Southern Free State Closed Squash Tournament that was held on Friday and Saturday, grew by 30% in participation since last year.

Coach Michael Deutchman said there were 130 participants and the tournament that was held at schools with squash courts accross Bloemfontein.

The event was organised by Free State Junior Squash.

Deutchman says this event was compulsory for qualification for players to represent the Free State in 2024 and participants already play in their age groups for next year.

The winners in the different age groups are as follows:

  • Girls U11 – winner: Isla Johnson (Eunice Primary School) and second Tshiveletso Mehlolo (St Michael School).
  • Boys U11 – winner: Johan Grobler and second Owen Odendaal, both from Grey College (Primary).
  • Girls U13 – winner: Riley Harris (Eunice) and second: Oratile Malahleha (St Michaels).
  • Boys U13 – winner: Iyaad Moosa and second Liam Cunningham (both from Grey).
  • Girls U14 – winner: Liné Grobler and second Sa-lomè Rauch (both from Eunice).
  • Boys U14 – winner: Diego Carreira (St Andrew’s) and second Nicol Hendricks (Grey).
  • Girls U16 – winner: Vivienne van der Schyff and second Illiana De Gouveia (both from Eunice High School).
  • Boys U16 – winner: Cobus Schimper and second Fawaaz Moosa (both from Grey College).
  • Girls U19 – winner: Bianca Rees-Gibbs, second Gemma Cronje and third Cyanne Kruger (all from Eunice).
  • Boys U19 – winner Semano Mohapi (St Andrew’s), second Mike Schimper (Grey) and third Marco van Rooyen (St Andrew’s).
