The young Alistair Maycock (8) was the only motocross competitor from Bloemfontein included in the South African youth team that took part in the African Motocross Tournament in Entebbe, Uganda, on 20 and 21 August.

This learner of the St Andrew’s School participated in the 50cc class for boys 7 to 9 years old.

He was 8th among a field of 40 riders, with South Africa winning the overal team event.

Alistair rides for the Bloemfontein Offroad Club.

He is now ranked fifth in his age group in South Africa and is regarded as the best in his age group in the Free State.

His dad, Doug, says Alistair absolutely loved the whole experience of travelling to Uganda. It was a highlight for this young rider, who started participating in motocross a year and a half ago.

Alistair has already competed in four of the six rounds of the South African National Motocross Championship. He will compete in this event’s fifth round on Saturday (03/09) in Welkom.

On 6 August Alistair took part in the big North vs South Championship in which 400 riders from across the country participated.

During this event, Alistiar placed third in the 50cc class. He achieved a holeshot (first place) around the first corner out of the gates.
