Entertainment has had a great boost during the past few years with major productions being staged in the country.

One of the successes was the I am Young production in Bloemfontein last year were young performers were trained in a workshop to perform at the end of a series of sessions.

Willie Venter, producer of I am Young and a range of national productions says as more productions are being put together, the demand from the industry for suitable performers has also grown, specifically performers with more than one performance ability.

“The industry is demanding a diverse performer, people that has the ability to act, dance and sing – all wrapped into one parcel.”

He says the “Producers of Art” has identified this short coming in the traditional training institutions in South Africa, as most training institutions only allow the student to specialize in one specific area of the performing arts.

“These days, most of the performing platforms for young upcoming Artists to make a name are based on a competitive level.”

Venter says he got the idea of providing a platform, where students can be exposed to a triple threat (dancing acting and singing) as well as putting their training, without the competitive side, into practice five years ago.

I am Young’s

the triple threat concept will be presented during a two-week course.

“What makes this workshop so unique, is the fact that during their two weeks of training, the students will also prepare for a performance. Students will therefore get the unique opportunity to put into practice what they have learned during the workshop.”

The 2024 workshop will be focused on stage presence and vocal ability.

A special price for the entries for the two-week course in preparation for the show on 13 July in Bloemfontein, are R450 if received before 20 May.

Thereafter the cost will be R2 750.

Being aware of their responsibility to uplift the community and provide training for previously disadvantage schools, the producers will also identify three students that will receive sponsorship to take part in the workshop.

The 2024 production of I am Young will take hands again with the Louise Fourie Dans Studio and the Eunice Primary School Choir will also form part of the production.
