Public input crucial as Mangaung Metro holds annual performance meetings

Residents of the Mangaung Metro are invited to public meetings where they can give input on the metro’s annual performance report.

According to legislation, these meetings must be held so that members of the community can comment on the city’s performance for the 2022/23 financial year.

The invites for these public meetings that started today in Vanstadensrus, Wepener and Dewetsdorp, were not widely communicated and many residents do not realise they can attend.

The meetings is held by the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) in all parts of the metro.

Corize van Rensburg, the DA’s candidate for ward 20 after Werner Pretorius was chosen as a DA member for the Provincial Legislator, said in a news release residents must come to the meetings to voice their concerns.

”Residents have been faced with dire service delivery for years, ranging from regular water outages and leaks, crumbling road infrastructure, unreliable delivery of electricity, and haphazard collection of refuse, amongst others,” she said.

“Not only does the low performance of MMM prejudice the living standards of its residents, but the continued dismal performance also discourages investment in the city leading to poor economic growth and job creation. The living experience of these residents is reflected in the independent findings of the recently released 2024 Governance Performance Index which rated Mangaung as the worst-performing metro in South Africa.”

She said the The DA is aware of many individuals and organisations that are ready and eager to partner with the metro in finding solutions to service delivery.

“The ANC-led administration must refrain from turning a blind eye to the highly valuable input that residents and organisations can make in ensuring a better city for all who live in it.”

The next meetings is on Tuesday, 16 July at 11:00 in the Auditorium Hall in the Bram Fischer Building; on 17 July at 11:00 at the Kaizer Sebothelo-Arena in Botshabelo and on 19 July at 11:00 in the Barolong Hall in Thaba Nchu.
