For the past 135 years, Kimberley Girls’ High School has been one of the top achieving academic schools in the Northern Cape, claiming several subject prizes each year along with having matric learners placing in various positions at the Northern Cape’s Annual NSC Top 20 Prize Giving.
Although the school is always exceptionally proud of the vast academic achievements that the learners obtain, there is also much more to offer in other areas at Kimberley Girls’ High. There is a plethora of sporting and cultural activities, each with their own commendable accolades.
The school was once again named as the second best performing school in the Northern Cape after the 2021 National Senior Certificate examinations. The class of 2021 had many top performing learners who were placed in various positions within the province’s top 20. There were also several matric learners who achieved multiple distinctions and obtained subject prizes. The school was furthermore named as the top Maths and the top Physical Sciences school in the province.
It is the school’s mission to “educate the whole” as it aims to develop well-rounded young ladies in all spheres. This approach has always greatly contributed towards the success of the school and the phenomenal matric results each year.
Thus, Kimberley Girls’ High has many societies, clubs, and sporting and cultural activities available to help learners explore their talents and interests. In doing so, the learners are better able to develop physically and mentally by learning valuable time management skills, learning how to work with others, developing leadership skills, and ultimately to become the best version of themselves.
Kimberley Girls’ High offers a variety of sports including chess, hockey, netball, rhythmics, soccer, squash, swimming and tennis. Teams participate in local, national and sometimes even international tournaments.
The school has in the past yielded various provincial sportswomen in many of these fields and is aiming to keep on doing so for many years to come. However, participation in at least one sporting activity is always encouraged and emphasised over and above winning, as it is far more imperative that the learners do their best and have fun.
Cultural activities include the likes of choir, the school newspaper, debating, the Eco and Interact Club, the marimba band, orchestra, and the Photography, Poetry and Science Club.
The choir has participated in various international competitions and brought home many accolades. An annual Festival of Voices has also been put on to perform for parents and fellow learners.
The debating team has consistently produced top speakers and given the learners a voice.
With the Interact and Eco Club, the learners are encouraged to participate in community development projects through fundraising, the donation of sanitary products, and the protection of the environment by means of recycling and planting trees.
The school is privileged to have a brilliant team of staff members who are dedicated towards each learner’s development and success in all aspects of life.
Without the devotion and hard work of each member of the school’s family, none of the aforementioned accomplishments would have been possible.
Learners are constantly encouraged to embody the school’s core values of enthusiasm, care, respect, reliability and honesty in everything they do – and that is why for the last 135 years Kimberley Girls’ High School has been producing mature young ladies who are ready to face the world after they finish their Gr. 12 year.
