Charan Moore (right) a St Andrew’s old boy who won the Dakar Rally in the Rally 2 Class, visited the school on Wednesday, 13 March. Moore wrote matric at the St Andrew’s School in 2009, and this was the first time he visited the school in 15 years, telling the boys about his adventures. Moore won the Malla Class in 2023 – this meant that he completed the whole race of about 10 000 km alone, without a team. This year he won the Moto Rally 2 Class and came 21st overall in the Dakar Race. With him on the photo is Alistair Maycock (Gr. 5), a big fan of Moore and also a South African off-road motorcycle rider. Alistair was the youngest member of the South African team when they competed in Uganda last year.Photo: Lientjie Mentz
