The 33-year-old suspect who allegedly attacked an elderly woman in Edenburg will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
Vuyisele Nomame (33) had his first court appearance at the Edenburg Magistrates’ Court this morning, facing charges of housebreaking and theft, as well as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Last night the Edenburg police arrested a suspect who allegedly broke into Elodé Kingsley’s (91) house in town, assaulted her, and fled.
Kingsley was attacked in her house on Sunday, 23 April, in Edenburg while preparing for a 90th birthday party that she would attend with her friend, Maureen Bekker, in Trompsburg.
According to Capt. Loraine Earle, spokesperson for the police, the suspect gained entry to the house by forcefully opening the kitchen door. Without provocation, he assaulted Kingsley and fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries to her head and face. She was taken to Mediclinic in Bloemfontein. She has since been discharged from hospital.
The investigation team worked around the clock to search for the suspect and made a breakthrough last night when they arrested a 33-year-old suspect in the township of Edenburg. The suspect was found in possession of some of the items stolen from Kingsley’s house.
The suspect will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 08 May.
