Saint Andrew’s two teams were unbeaten during the St Andrew’ School Squash Festival that was held from Friday (10/02) to Sunday at courts all over Bloemfontein.

Margo Morgan and Calvin Deutschmann organized the event this year for the 29th time.

“Since this tournament is run on a festival basis, the pressure to win was of secondary importance, while gaining experience and developing other important sporting values such as integrity, sportsmanship, team spirit, attitude and goodwill took priority, in our endeavours to promote the game of squash both at St Andrew’s and in the Free State,” Morgan said.

She said the festival was a huge success. There were 26 teams in attendance and they were representative of 25 schools.

The St Andrew’s team’s excelled at the event.

Saint’s first team was unbeaten. St Andrew’s team won Michaelhouse A (5 – 1); King Edward VII (5 – 1); St Dominic’s College (5 – 1); Hoërskool Zwartkop (4 – 2); and won against Selborne College (6 – 0).

The St Andrew’s second team was also unbeaten. They won Michaelhouse B (6 – 0); St John’s College B (6 – 0); Queen’s College A (4 – 2); drew againgst Maritzburg College A (3 – 3); and won Kingswood College (5 – 1).

The second team with the same coaching team as the first, are from the left Damian Tsikoe, Justin Lessing, Harry Marangellis, Ivan Huang, Matthew Strydom and Yi Qu.
