St Michael’s School for Girls celebrates its 150th year in 2024 – looking back on the long history, as well as forward to the future of this proud school.

As part of its sesquicentennial celebrations, St Michael’s has hosted the Junior All Girls Festival at the end of the first term where schools from across the country came to take part in games of hockey, tennis, squash, netball as well as chess and cross country.

The St Michael’s Music, Art and Photography Festival attracted learners from schools across Bloemfontein and the greater Free State.

The highlight of the second part of the year will include a school stage production with the title Timeless.

This will be a magical journey through the history of the school and will portray a variety of important moments since its establishment in 1874. The past and present are promised to be linked in a very special way.

The production will be staged in the Wynand Mouton Theatre on the main campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) on 15 and 16 August.

The Old Girls’ reunion weekend will take place on 14 to 15 September, with a gala dinner on the Saturday evening at Ramblers, followed by a Eucharist service in the school chapel on Sunday at 09:00. Girls from all over the world will be attending this weekend.

The 150th birthday celebrations will conclude with the Songs of Celebration on Sunday, 27 October, where various school choirs will join St Michael’s in hymns of thanksgiving and praise.

This will take place at the Centre of Faith in Universitas.
