The South African Intruder Detection Services Association (SAIDSA) held a competition for its members in the Free State and Northern Cape on 8 May, at Bains Lodge in Bloemfontein.
In this fourth leg of a national competition, the best technicians in the region competed in a four-hour alarm installation marathon, done according to the “Bylaw-5” commercial alarm installation standard of SAIDSA – which was then independently judged by delegates of the regulatory body.
Only members of the association were allowed to enter. The companies in the central region were Top Security Systems (Kimberley), Corcomm (Kroonstad), Bloemsec, Defensor, Securiforce, Senforce, Fidilty ADT (all from Bloemfontein), and Mayday Alarms (Harismith).
The local winner was Jaco Griessel of Bloemsec, in second place was Ryno Niewoudt, also of Bloemsec, and in third place was Jacob Mkhwanazi of Mayday Alarms.
The winners will compete in an all expenses paid national final in Gauteng on 12 June. The 12 finalists will have to complete an installation according to SAIDSA standards again. The applicable standard and rules will only be announced on the day.
