The Annual St Andrew’s School Squash Festival will be hosting and celebrating its 29th Invitation Squash tournament from Friday (10/02) to Sunday.

The main objective of this tournament is to provide an opportunity for the young Free State squash players to play against other top squash players in the country. In doing so, they will obtain the necessary exposure and experience they require in order compete successfully with the other provinces.

A large number of the country’s top junior boys squash players will be in action.

Players from 25 schools and a total of 26 teams from around the country will be hosted. Some of the top schools include Paul Roos Gimnasium (Paarl), Grey College (Bloemfontein), St Andrew’s College (Grahamstown), Queen’s College (Queenstown), Michaelhouse (Balgowan), Grey High (Gqeberha), Zwartkop (Pretoria), Parktown Boys’ High (Johannesburg), St Stithian’s College (Johannesburg), St John’s College (Johannesburg), St Dominic’s College (Welkom), Kearnsey College (Bothas Hill), Maritzburg College (Pietermaritzburg), Selborne College (East London), St Andrew’s (Bloemfontein, two teams), Kingswood College (Grahamstown), Pretoria Boys High (Pretoria), Glenwood Boys High (Durban), Westville Boys High (Westville), King Edward VII (Johannesburg) and players from Witteberg High School (Bethlehem) and Welkom Gimnasium.

Since this tournament will be run on a festival basis, the pressure to win will be of secondary importance, while gaining experience and developing other important sporting values such as integrity, sportsmanship, team spirit, attitude and goodwill will take priority in St Andrew’s endeavours to promote the game of squash both at St Andrew’s and in the Free State.

The tournament will be played at the following venues: St Andrew’s School, Eunice High School, Grey College, Ramblers, Municipals, Oudstudente, Tempe, University of the Free State, Bobbiespark and St Michael’s School.

The country’s top junior players will be in action. Many of the top U19’s who will do battle this year for South African Schools Squash rankings and selection to the World Junior Squash teams include the following players – all of whom can be seen in action over the weekend:

Jordan Wilkinson (St Andrew’s School, Bloemfontein), Joshua Deutschmann (King Edward VII) Luhan Gorenwald (Zwartkop), Connor and Matthew Earl (Selborne College) and Tristan Davies (St Dominic’s College).
