A teacher at Sentraal High School in Bloemfontein resigned after the principal, Charles Liversage, confronted him with allegation of sexual misconduct and told him that he will be suspended.
The school immediately took steps when it became evident that the teacher paid for sexual explicit photo’s from two learners at the school.
Capt Loraine Earle, spokesperson for the SAPS, confirmed that charges was laid at the Bayswater Police Station last week. The police is investigating charges of sexual grooming, possesion of child pornography and incitement to commit a crime.
“Nobody was taken into custody yet, but the case is being investigated,” she confirmed today.
The School Governing Body and the management team of Sentraal, said in a letter to the parents that they are committed to a safe learning environment where the learners will flourish. In the statement they said this is non-negotiable and nobody working at Sentraal is above this.
Kaydene Davids wrote in Volksblad today that the alleged incidents in which sexual explicit photo’s were sent, took place in the begining of the third term. The teacher allegedly offerd money in four of these incidents. He allegedly also sent photo’s to the girls.
Liversage said there should be a healthy distance between adults and workers at the school and learners at all times.
All involved in the incident is now receiving support, the school said.
