For over three decades, since 1991, Johnny’s Fruit Market, established by Johnny Tyranis has been an integral part of the business culture of Bloemfontein.

Despite economic challenges and global trials of the Covid pandemic, under the guidance of Simon Tyranis, its growth and success was ensured.

“[One] of our proudest accomplishments, Johnny’s (Fruit Market) was awarded for six consecutive years, the ‘Best Place to Buy Fresh Produce’ solidifying its trust across the region,” said Simon.

The passing of the torch by Simon Tyranis, who has tirelessly led Johnny’s Fruit Market for the past two decades, brings the Tyranis era to a close after the family recently announced the sale of this business.

“Running Johnny’s Fruit Market as a successful business has been an incredible journey, filled with gratitude for our community’s unwavering support,” Simon shared, adding that he has entered into a new chapter of his life, continuing in the food business, but at a different pace, or “maybe going on early pension”, he joked.

As Johnny’s Fruit Market transitioned into the hands of new ownership, the dreams, and aspirations of Simon for the business, including a revamp for growth and market relevance, remains attainable as the new owner takes up carrying the legacy of the Tyranis family.

“As I bid farewell, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our loyal and cherished wholesale and retail customers from both near and far. My deepest gratitude to our dedicated suppliers, both local and beyond, including the finest farmers and producers and most importantly, our outstanding market agents, whose unwavering dedication through challenging times, has been invaluable.
