The Free State Squash Association, in conjunction with the University of the Free State’s (UFS) KovsieSport, embarked on a development squash programme in the third quarter of 2023.

Aimed at schools that do not have their own squash courts, the Martie du Plessis School and Jim Fouché High School were invited to participate in this initiative.

To celebrate this successful project, which has seen new players developed from both schools, the St Andrew’s School, who kindly loaned rackets and protective eyewear to the programme, was invited to play some matches against the new players.

Much fun was had by all present and participating.

Squash has just been elevated to Olympic status for Los Angeles 2028. With a project such as this, future talent can be honed to potentially produce the Olympic competitors of tomorrow.
