The audiences at two venues in Bloemfontein got what they were promised: a laugh a minute and much, much more.

The audiences at two venues in Bloemfontein got what they were promised: a laugh a minute and much, much more.

The Savanna Comedy Bar treated locals at The Zone in Bochabela on Wednesday, 3 July, and at The Other Venue in Second Avenue in Westdene on Thursday to a propper stand-up comedy show by some of the country’s best comedians.

Courtesy of Savanna Premium Cider, local and nationally established comedians shared the stage at shows that attracted substantial crowds.

The two shows were part of Savanna’s nationwide Comedy Central tour, with comedians performing live at various cities and towns – at some unexpected venues in the country.

Acts were from diverse backgrounds and they perform in different languages, breaking the barriers of race.

The line-up on Thursday at the Other Venue was introduced by the hilarious Shanray van Wyk as master of ceremonies for the evening.

From beginning to end, Shanray came up with quips to make the crowd roar out load. He has a wonderful way of making people laugh at themselves, showing how South Africans easily see the humor in everyday events and situations.

The first act on stage was Khabane Moloi from Johannesburg, a rising star in stand-up comedy.

He was followed by Khanyisa JamJam, the big man that worked the crowd with tonnes of humor.

Golden Horn Award and South African Film and Television Award (Safta) winner Hannes Brümmer was killing it, and had the audience in stiches – not shunning away from his Afrikaans heritage and quips about love and living in South Africa.

Guests at The Other Venue were spoiled with free drinks from Savana at the crisp and dry revival as the Savanna Comedy Bar came to town.

Comedy lovers who missed this show, can keep an eye on social media to see when the next comedy bar will be in town.

They can also #ShowUpForStandUp in support of South African comedians.

Episodes from the stand-up comedy show tour will be aired on Comedy Central on DStv (Channel 122).
