The uncle of little Katleho Joy Leeuw (3), the toddler that was found murdered on Saturday, 25 October, has been arrested for her murder.
The suspect (29) appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 28 October.
The arrest was made on Sunday at 19:30 by the Provincial Murder and Robbery investigation unit.
This follows a search that stretched over days by the police after the three-year-old had gone missing the previous Thursday. Her body was found in bushes close to her home in Glen after her mother, Vuyiswa Joyce Leeuw, had reported the little girl missing.
The search, which was led by Capt. Jerry Motaung of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, continued early on Saturday and at about 11:20 the discovery was made.
Katleho’s fragile body was found dumped in the thick bushes, a distance from Glen Location. Preliminary investigation indicates that Katleho had been sexually assaulted and murdered.
A case of murder is opened at Glen Police Station.
The uncle is expected to appear in court again on 4 November.
