The police in Bloemfontein had a breakthrough after a sharp rise in the theft of high-end, expensive vehicles in Bloemfontein.
A suspect was arrested soon after a Toyota Land Cruiser was stolen from Preller Square at around 12:00 yesterday.
The Bloemfontein Flying Squad spotted the stolen vehicle speeding on the R702 and persued it.
After a high-speed chase, the Land Cruiser drove into a rural area, where the two suspects abandoned the vehicle. Members continued to chase the suspects on foot.
In the meantime, other police members joined in the chase and after searching several premises, one suspect was found hiding in a house where he had already changed clothes.
Capt Loraine Earl said in a news release the suspect was searched and a jamming device was found in his possession. The suspect was arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle and for being in possession of a signal-blocking device.
The 39-year-old suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court soon.
