Heavily armed robbers used a Mercedes Benz to ram into a cash in transit-vehicle in Hamilton, Bloemfontein, in the early hours. The incident took place at around 06:00 on the corner of Mill street and Vooruitsig Street close to Buco.
Srg Mahlomola Kareli, spokesperson for the South African Police Service, said heavily armed robbers got out of their vehices after the crash and disarmed the security guards.
They then proceeded to take money from the cash in transit-vehicle and fled the scene using a white Toyota bakkie and a white Mazda.
With the support of 10111 responders, the police rushed to the scene and one police bakkie from Batho police station was shot at but no one was injured.
Kareli said the area is now cordoned off and the scene is being investigated.
