Whether you’re the hot one, the spicy one, the funny one or the rough-and-ready one, there is a hot dog with your name on it.
To celebrate the vibrant and lively South African culture, Eskort is recognising 12 local icons with its Real Hot Dogs of Mzansi Awards.
During the month of March, Eskort will be honouring a dozen Mzansi icons with a series of fun-loving, mouth-watering hot dog combinations inspired by their unique personalities and endearing traits.
In true Eskort style, this diverse range of hot dogs draws on smoked viennas to epitomise humble beginnings, cheese russians which aptly resemble cheesy personalities, bockwurst as the seasoned performer, lip-smacking grillers to characterise good ol’ South African traditions and chilli russians exemplifying hotness.
Whether you are a celebrity, a VIP, a dignitary or just a somebody who matters, Eskort has an award category and product for every personality and temperament.
One of the first celebrities on Eskort’s list of honourees is beloved local comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout whose signature look and down-to-earth style is captured through a slapstick hot dog recipe featuring an Eskort cheese griller, crispy onions, bacon and a knitted wool jersey (see picture).
According to Marcelle Pienaar, Eskort group marketing manager, more award winners will be unveiled on social media throughout the month, with an exciting line-up that includes the who’s who of South Africa.
“From kapteins to captains, the sexy to the zany, these are real local heroes who have played a key role in shaping our amazing home and represent some of the best that our country has to offer.”
In addition to celebrities, the awards also celebrate the experiences that best characterise everyday life in Mzansi – the “South Africanisms” that give our local culture its distinctive flavour.
The first example released this week is the Parliament Award, with a tongue-in-cheek, spicy hot dog that calls for a flame-grilled smoked vienna on a charcoal roll.
“Our central goal is to recognise the famous and infamous events that have defined who we are as a nation – whether this be the things we love or the things we love to hate. By commemorating these common experiences in a playful and quirky way, we believe that our awards will resonate strongly with all South Africans.”
